Academic Advising Services
In CAHSS, academic advising is offered by both Professional Academic Advisors and faculty advisors. Our Professional Academic Advisors—Tonia Hamilton, Melissa Coleman, Serenity Ellis, and Jaade Williams—work with freshmen, students identified as at-risk, and selected special student populations. Faculty advisors work collaboratively with students in their respective departments to help students realize their full potential and achieve the academic, professional and personal goals they set for themselves.
According to the National Academic Advising Association, Academic Advising is an interactive process in which the adviser helps the student set and achieve academic goals, acquire relevant information and services, and make responsible decisions consistent with interests, goals, abilities, and degree requirements. Academic Coaching is an advising approach that pushes the student to reflect and act on the range of goals, interests, and passions available in higher education.
