North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is firmly committed to providing equal opportunity in education and employment. Accessibility is the practice of designing environments, technologies, products, and services so that they can be used by all people–regardless of disability, age, or other factors that may affect access. Accessibility ensures that people with diverse needs and abilities can participate fully in society by having have equal access to information, services, environments, and structures in an effective and integrative manner.
Accommodation refers to reasonable modifications, adjustments, or structural changes made to an environment (e.g., workplaces, public spaces, transportation, etc.) to remove obstacles for people with disabilities. These changes ensure equal access, functionality, and safety, allowing individuals to navigate, work, or receive services without being excluded. They are applied retroactively to overcome barriers in the environment or system.
